Introduction &
Establishment of the Trust
The first centenary of Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh Ji (in 1978) was celebrated worldwide with lots of love, devotion and glory. At this occasion Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh Trust was founded by Bhai Balbir Singh Ji with the cooperation of old friends and companions of Bhai Sahib. The main aim of setting up of this Trust was to propagate Bhai Sahibs thoughts, philosophy and gurmat literature written by him throughout the world. Since then these books are being published under its patronage. To perpetuate the memory of his father Bhai Balbir Singh also also constituted two more trusts, one at Narangwal, donating the ancestral Haveli (home) and dhaab (Bhai Sahib’s place of cremation) to it, and the other at Kumar Hatti (Himacal Pradesh) where Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh used to spend summers and authored many books.
Upon his imprisonment in 1915, although Bhai Randhir Singh had no property in his name at the time, his expected share from any ancestral property and all movable property was forfeited to the government. This was released 30 years after his release from prison. While Bhai Sahib was in prison, some friends of the family advised Bhai Balbir Singh to apply for the release of the forfeited property. In reply to this he said “It is shameful for a son to inherit the property, while his father is still alive”. In 1977 the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Giani Zail Singh decided to commemorate the Birth Centenary of Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh to honour the family. For providing monetary help, Giani Zail Singh sent the first instalment through a cheque. This was returned to him by Bhai Balbir Singh with the comments that since Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh fought for the freedom of the country and went to jail not to earn money and personal benefits, he cannot accept this cheque.
Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh Trust UK
In order to promote Bhai Sahib’s rich gurmat literature and similar works more widely and on a global scale, Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh Trust UK was setup in 2011 under the guidance of Bhai Manjit Singh (grandson of Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh). Whilst his books and tracts are available in India, we feel that it is not always easy to obtain these in other places around the world. As such, we have begun to provide this material through digital media and the internet.
You can order the books and tracts right to your door from our online shop. The costs of these will be set to cover printing and postage. Additionally, we have begun to distribute translations of Bhai Sahib’s work through electronic book (ebook) retailers such as Amazon Kindle and Apple iBooks. The response of this has been immense with over 1,000 downloads within the first few months. Wherever possible these are available free of cost. With technology moving so fast and ebook sales rapidly growing to outnumber physical copies, Bhai Sahib’s literature can now be distributed in ways which were not physically possible previously.
We hope you will support this endeavour and provide your feedback and thoughts or any suggested improvements. If you would like to get involved please contact us. We would love to hear from you.
